Google Inspiration

So what did you think of yesterday's Totally Tubular Tunes Tuesday?  Isn't Ingrid Michaelson fabulous?  Well I had mentioned that her song was featured in a mega commercial.  It's the new Google commercial, and I really wanted to get your thoughts on it...

Was I the only one who cried by the end of that?  FYI, the song playing was Ingrid Michaelson's "Sort Of". I thought it was an interesting idea, opening a separate Google account to serve as a kind of time capsule for you child.  It's definitely convenient, pretty all inclusive and quite modern.  As cool as I thought it was, though, I couldn't help to feel a little sad.  I tend to be a little old fashioned but isn't there a sort of beauty in a handwritten note or drawing, or actually holding a photograph you took?  As much as I love the mufti-faceted convenience of technology I can't help but see it as, in some aspects, a slow wearing away of our culture.
Anyways, it was just a thought I had.  It is really a cool concept.

In case you're looking for a more traditional approach, however, here are some great tutorials I found.

Create your own story book!  (by Disney at Ruffles and Stuff)  Her Photoshop tutorial can be found here.

Make your own video (Ok, I know that's computer related, but this is so cool!)

That's all I have so far.  Do you have any creative ways for documenting special things for your kids (or just in general)?

Totally Tubular Tunes Tuesday.

Well, hello there!  I have to say Tuesday is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week now that I've dedicated it to bringing you some tasty music to inspire you.  Today's song is from one of my favorite song writers, Ingrid Michaelson.  She's definitely becoming more and more well known, but the first time I heard her was on an Old Navy commercial back in 2007.  If you don't know her, I bet you would recognize the commercial I'm talking about.  You can find it here.  That one 30 (or so) second sound bite got me hooked.  Her style is super unique, and if you listen to more than one of her songs you realize she's brilliant when it comes to composing (as opposed to just having one great fluke of a song).

This song of hers, Parachute, is really just a fun, peppy, get up and jump around kind of song.  The beats are crisp and clean and I think you're gonna like it.  If not, don't get mad at me, I'm just the messenger!

Oh, and one of her songs was just released in a mega commercial recently, which we'll be talking about tomorrow.  So come back!  Please.

{Blove}

Hello, friends happy Monday!  Are you ready for the week?  Me neither.  Hmm.  Well, let's face it together!  And what better way to start than with Blove!!

Forgot what Blove means?

BLOG + LOVE = BLOVE

Today's Blove comes to you from Tennessee...

I found Julie and her blog on Pinterest.  This is what caught my attention...

See that really cute rug?  You do?  Ok, well that's a DROP CLOTH!   How cool is that?  She shows you how to make it so easily.  Have a drop cloth but don't need an outdoor rug? How about a faux Parisian Roman shade?

These are just a couple of the really great tutorials that Julie shares.  Another project I really liked of hers was when she redecorated her daughter's room and made these curtains...

(they just make me smile when I look at them!)
And this black and white window treatment (you have to see how she did it!)

Julie is quite a talented lady, and I really respect her because it's evident in her writing that she is humble about her abilities.  She's also very outspoken about her relationship with the Lord, which is always very cool!

So you can tell that I'm in Blove.  Check her out and I'm sure you will be too!

See you tomorrow for Totally Tubular Tunes Tuesday (yeah, we're still calling it that).

Business Cards

So you guys know I started a business, HappyLu Vintage, right?  Well I'm thinking of ways to promote it and the number one thing I feel I should have is a card.  Every business, (and blog!)  should have a card.  It's kind of like a first impression on paper (or maybe not on paper!?) to sell yourself to others.  You want it to be unique - to set you apart.  You want it to be a memorable, perhaps even fun, experience for the person receiving it.  Here are some ideas to get your juices flowing...

confetti calling cards (One of my favorites!)

Danni at Oh, Hello Friend adds a push pin with her cards!

Who says business cards have to be rectangular?  Check out this tutorial!

And how about a creative way to display them?

make your own tiny envelopes

a mustache holder, seriously?  how cool is that?

Well, I have a feeling this is going to call for a part II because there are just too many great ideas to list.  I hope this has kick started your thinking, though!  Really the sky is the limit when it comes to designing a card that has YOU written all over it.   Just make sure that it tells a little piece of your story, not someone else's.  You want cool, but most importantly you want authentic.  I'm excited to get working on mine!
If you have other ideas or have seen something unique, let me know!

Totally Tubular Tunes Tuesday.

Too much?  hmm ... I'll let marketing know.  For now, just know that I'm starting a new installment on, well, Tuesdays which showcases a creative song or video.  I'm learning that inspiration doesn't just come from obvious pictures and I'm positive I'm not alone when I say that music can be extremely inspiring.  So let's explore that, shall we?

Today's video is not a traditional musical performance, which makes it all the more AMAZING!  You may recognize them from the McDonald's commercial.

One of the commenters said "My favorite part was when they did the thing with their hands."  Oh, you.  In case you were wondering, Suzanne Cleary and Peter Harding are actually Irish Dancers that wanted to break out and do something completely original. (I think they succeeded.)  They formed the group "Up and Over It" along with video artist Johnny Reed.  You can find out more about them on their website Up and Over It

Happy Tuesday!

Hello, Blove!

Well I'm coming off of a great weekend! A kick butt blogging conference with a fashion show hosted byTim Gunn (sounds very VIP, but really I was a little fly in a standing room only event).  Exhibit A:

See that little bity blob way back there? That's Tim Gunn.  Just take my word for it.
So anyway, great weekend and ready for a great week.  I hope you are too!  Let's kick it off with a little Blove, shall we?  What is Blove, you ask?

BLOG + LOVE = BLOVE

Yes, I'm one of those people who likes to annoyingly combine words together (togethords).  I actually think I invented it, although I can't prove it.  Anyhow,

When I stumbled upon this blog I thought I had died and gone to thrift store heaven. Mandi, the author, is a guru when it comes to taking cheap finds and turning them into very unique and mod pieces. She has such a great sense of humor that comes through not only in her writing but in her craft as well.  Oh, and did I mention she has been on the Nate Berkus Show?!!!

Here's just a sample of her aweseome-ness:

Gender lamps - So clever!  (That whole room was pretty much a big amazing ball of  DIY)

She'll even show you how to make your own zebra rug - like, actually make a rug!

In addition to all of her fabulous projects and techniques (oh, Mandi, you are super-fly), she has an incredible life story that she humbly shares to encourage others.  You can find it here

So check Vintage Revivals out and show her some Blove!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Happy Sunday...

Feast your eyes on these fabulous yummies!

Make cookie cups by turning the pan upside down!

Doily cookies - so pretty!

 Cupcakes for two...genius!

This pumpkin-gingerbread trifle should be made illegal!

Mac n' cheese in a cupcake pan?  Thank you, Lord!

Well, I'm officially hungry now, how about you?
Have a wonderful Sunday.
